Canadian Tourtière (Quebec Meat Pie)
Quebec's traditional spiced meat pie, a Christmas Eve staple in French-Canadian homes for centuries.
Ingredients
- Pie crust (top and bottom for 9-inch pie)
- 1.5 lbs ground pork
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 medium potato, grated
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt
- Pepper
- Egg wash

Cook pork, beef, onion, and garlic in a skillet until browned. Drain excess fat.

Add broth, grated potato, and all spices. Simmer 20 minutes until thick. Cool completely.

Line a pie dish with bottom crust. Fill with cooled meat mixture.

Top with second crust, crimp edges, cut steam vents. Brush with egg wash.

Bake at 400°F for 35-40 minutes until deeply golden. Cool slightly before slicing.
