Midwest Tater Tot Hotdish

Midwest Tater Tot Hotdish

A Minnesota classic that turns humble ingredients — ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, frozen vegetables, and a crown of tater tots — into pure Midwestern comfort.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz each) cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (corn, peas, green beans, carrots)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

Brown ground beef with onion in a large skillet, breaking it into crumbles. Drain excess fat. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

  3. 3

Stir in cream of mushroom soup and frozen vegetables. Spread the mixture evenly in a 9x13 inch baking dish.

  4. 4

Sprinkle shredded cheese over the meat layer. Arrange tater tots in a single layer on top, covering the entire surface.

  5. 5

Bake for 40-45 minutes until the tater tots are golden and crispy and the filling is bubbling around the edges. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
