Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef or lamb
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 2 slices bread, soaked in 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 2 tbsp chutney (or apricot jam)
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • Topping: 2 eggs, 1 cup milk, 4 bay leaves
  • Salt, pepper, oil

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Sauté onions in oil until golden, 8 minutes. Add curry powder and turmeric, cook 1 minute.

    Add ground meat and cook until browned. Stir in raisins, chutney, vinegar, salt, and pepper.

    Squeeze milk from bread, mash bread into the meat mixture (reserve milk). Press into a baking dish.

    Whisk eggs with the reserved milk plus extra to make 1 cup. Pour over the meat. Stick bay leaves into the top.

    Bake 30-35 minutes until the topping is set and golden. Serve with yellow rice.
